As part of the joint project KACTUS II, the IMPT and the Institute of Quantum Optics are developing so-called atom chips for the realization of compact quantum gravimeters. The optimization of microtechnological atom chip production is the focus of our investigations. Quantum sensors are generally characterized by a very high sensitivity, which leads to a significant increase in measurement accuracy compared to conventional sensors. Quantum gravimeters in particular can be used to detect underground activities and thus contribute to improving early warning systems.
