Course Goal

The bachelor project is a relatively young course in which most mechanical engineering institutes participate. Each institute supervises up to 40 first-year students of mechanical engineering who have decided on the respective project. The focus of this course is on the independent examination of a practical task, which the students are supposed to master as group work. This way, important knowledge is imparted early on in the course of study, which should help students to understand the challenges of studying mechanical engineering and to identify with it.

Course Content

Using simple applications, students first learn the basics of evaluating different sensors, and then design and manufacture an interface board themselves, to which several magnetic field sensors can be connected. In the following, this is needed to detect the position of cars on a Carrera track and thus measure their lap time. In the continuation of the project, the goal is to let the car drive itself (i.e. without human intervention) and to achieve the shortest possible lap time. The better the mechanics, electronics and software are coordinated, the faster the car will be and the other groups can be beaten.
